DESCRIPTION:Healthcare Immigration Strategies:  New Mexico Health Resources is pleased to announce a new webinar series aimed at supporting New Mexico healthcare institutions’ ongoing efforts to recruit and retain healthcare providers through the immigration of talented foreign national candidates.  \nIn this era of severe shortages and major challenges in recruiting physicians\, dentists\, and allied healthcare providers\, employers need to update constantly their recruitment toolbox\, particularly when recruiting for difficult-to-fill placements.  One of the major sources of healthcare providers is foreign nationals.  Employers can be resistant to grappling with the uncertainties and complexities of the U.S. immigration system.  However\, our immigration laws are recognizing the high benefits that international healthcare providers bring to U.S. patients\, and there are even immigration legal provisions that\, when properly understood and invoked\, give employers a competitive advantage in both recruiting and retaining foreign healthcare workers.  In a sense\, immigration is getting a facelift under the Biden Administration\, and many employers within the state will benefit from getting either a refresher or a crash course in how immigration can best support your recruitment program. \nThis two-part webinar series will cover immigration options and strategies for healthcare organizations and their team members as a means of recruitment and long-term retention of talented candidates. During her time at UNM\, she has been involved in medical education and interdepartmental initiatives to improve patient care. She is the Division of Hospital Medicine Director for Consult Medicine and directs a resident rotation in Consult Medicine. She has helped lead an interdisciplinary geriatric hip fracture co-management service initiative with the Department of Orthopedic Surgery. She completed a two year Medical Educator Scholars Program through UNM and developed\, implemented\, and currently co-directs a medical student elective transition to residency rotation entitled Internal Medicine Boot Camp. She has served as a chapter leader for the New Mexico Chapter of SHM since 2017 and currently is the NM SHM Chapter President. ​ \n\nEileen Barrett\, MD\, MPH is an internal medicine hospitalist and Director of Continuing Medical Education at the University of New Mexico.  She is a multi-state District Chair of the New Mexico Chapter of the Society of Hospital Medicine. Dr. Larragoite simultaneously established a Medicaid only dental clinic on campus\, serving two purposes. A controlled clinical environment for dental assistant students and providing much needed access to Medicaid dental care for the area\, at the same time providing a revenue stream for the allied health dental programs.  \nTwo years later Dr. Larragoite was appointed as Executive Director of the New Mexico Health Policy Commission becoming the only Oral Health Provider to ever hold this position. During this time Dr. Larragoite created the Governors Oral Health Council which providing Oral Health Policy information concerning access\, cost\, and workforce issues. After holding this position for 5 years Dr. Larragoite began providing oral health services  for Native Americans in New Mexico. Serving the Navajo Nation while employed for Presbyterian Medical Services in Cuba New Mexico for three years. He then become the Dental Director for Cochiti Pueblo for three years. He then became the Dental Director for Dental Programs for the Pueblo of San Felipe helping coordinate electronic health records and establishing digital radiography for the dental programs. Dr. Larragoite was a finalist for the Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellowship 2006.

Dr. Hilton has been actively involved in the development of NNOHA’s training and technical assistance resources for health centers to improve on the HRSA UDS Sealants Measure. DESCRIPTION:Objectives\nAfter this presentation\, participants will be able to: \n\nDiscuss the two most common oral diseases and systemic disease connections\nIdentify need for dental clearance prior to surgery\, chemotherapy or radiation treatment\nExplain importance of follow up care after transplant surgery\, chemotherapy and radiation\n\nThis talk is brought to you by the New Mexico Kidney Foundation\nThe New Mexico Kidney Foundation is dedicated to kidney disease prevention in New Mexico by enhancing awareness and improving the quality of life of people with or at risk of kidney disease through education\, research\, and philanthropic projects.  We aspire to improve the quality of life in individuals with or at risk of kidney disease\, decrease kidney failure rates and increase transplant rates in New Mexico. \nThe Foundation provides direct financial assistance to individuals who need to be added to the kidney transplant list but lack the required dental clearance because of needed dental work.  On the first Wednesday of each month\, we broadcast a Kidney Talk on Facebook Live to raise awareness about the importance of our kidneys\, how to keep them healthy and ultimately to prevent Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) or the progression of CKD to End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD).  Most recently we had a presentation on the implications of oral health on kidney health by Clinician Educator and UNM Associate Professor\, Christine Cogil\, DNP\, MPS\, RN\, FNP-BC. \nPresenter: Christine Cogil\, DNP\, MPS\, RN\, FNP-BC \nChristine Cogil\, DNP\, MPS\, RN\, FNP-BC\, is a clinician educator – associate professor and the Interim Assistant Dean of Graduate Professional Programs at The University of New Mexico (UNM) College of Nursing. She also has a dual appointment with the UNM Department of Dental Medicine. Her practice as a nurse and family nurse practitioner has been dedicated to rural\, underserved and border populations. Cogil joined the College of Nursing faculty in 2010\, where she continued to focus on rural School-Based Health Clinics and Federally Qualified Health Centers. Her teaching has been primarily involved the preparation of advanced practiced registered nurses. \nCogil’s doctoral work and clinical practice have focused on the integration of oral health into primary care. She has been involved in two HRSA grants to train students and providers in the assessment and management of oral health issues that can be managed in primary care. Currently\, she is the New Mexico Oral Health Champion and\, in this role\, strives to improve oral health equity by working with nursing and medical programs in the state to incorporate oral health assessment and management into their curriculum. She has presented her work on the integration of oral health at local\, regional\, and national conferences.
